Dripping tap: repair or replace
A dripping tap seems a minor problem, but it wastes water, stains the sink and tends to get worse. The choice between repairing and replacing depends on the condition of the tap.

When a repair is enough
If the tap is in good condition and the fault is a washer or cartridge, the usual fix is to replace that part. It is a quick repair and avoids replacing the whole tap.
When it is better to replace it
If the tap is very old, corroded, leaks in several places or spare parts are hard to find, installing a new one is usually worthwhile.
Before you start
Close the tap's own isolation valve or the main stopcock before touching it. If you are not confident, it is better to have a professional do it to avoid a bigger leak.
