Common causes

What to check safely

  1. Look in the fuse box to see whether the water heater protection has tripped. If it trips again and again, do not insist.
  2. Check that the selector or thermostat is not set low.
  3. Look for dripping or damp under the water heater.
  4. Do not open the electrical cover with the power on: disconnect it first.

What not to do

Do not tamper with the heating element or wiring if you do not know how, and do not keep resetting the protection if it trips again: there may be an earth leak. See our guide on the RCD.
